Wilson's Wood-nymph

When pupating, larvae scrape surrounding stem tissue and mix it with their own fluids to secrete their version of a particle board cocoon.

Some of the larvae pupated in a chamber containing newspaper and dissolved several layers to form a gray, papery cocoon that resembled the side of a Yellow Jacket's nest.
