2nd Instar Larva

Xerociris wilsonii
One Week Old

At 8mm, it has quadrupled its length in 7 days. Some other notable changes include the prominent anal hump, the spatulate filaments, and segmental rings. It can now chomp directly through the leaf edge instead of scraping and gouging the leaf surface, and it now uses the abdominal prolegs in moving. It spins silk along its route and will swing down on a thread or cut and drop when disturbed. LIFE CYCLE
